The CNMA 2007 Annual Meeting, held Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the Berkeley Marina Doubletree Hotel - Berkeley, CA was attended by over 40 CNMs and SNMs. The meeting highlight was the opportunity for CNMA to honor Karen Bass, State Assembly Majority Leader of the 47th District as the CNMA Legislator of the Year. The award was given to Ms. Bass "in recognition of your valuable leadership on legislative issues supporting maternal child health and the practice of nurse-midwifery in California."

As the key note speaker for the meeting, Ms. Bass discussed health care reform as one of her key legislative agendas; specifically mentioning the key role that advanced practice nurses, such as certified nurse midwives, have in California's health care transformation.
